On October 25, Norwegian pianist and composer Kjetil Mulelid will perform at Lumiere Hall for the first time!

 

Kjetil Mulelid's various projects have received international acclaim, ranging from his duo with Siril Malmedal Hauge, the Kjetil Mulelid trio, and the quartet Wako, as well as in collaborations with artists such as Arve Henriksen, Mathias Eick, Trygve Seim, Sissel Vera Pettersen, Bacsó Kristóf . His first solo album, "Piano" (Rune Grammofon, 2021) received plaudits that placed him among pianists like Keith Jarret, Brad Mehldau and Bill Evans. His latest project "Agoja", demonstrates what a musician and composer worthy of such acclaim can do with an ensemble of the highest calibre. The leading jazz magazine Jazzwise named it “a modern Nordic Masterpiece”, and HIFI+ magazine named it “a vision of truth and beauty”. 

 

With beautiful and harmonious compositions, and always with a desire to tell a story in every musical stanza, Kjetil treats each song like a blank canvas and paints with his melodies and a natural rhythmic flow in the playful music. Kjetil is very much looking forward to coming back to Budapest, and says that this specific evening will be special, with music inspired by the awe-inspiring visuals of space at Lumiere Hall. Kjetil says: "I will mostly perform music from the solo albums of mine, as well as some music by my own trio that visited Budapest Jazz Festival earlier this year. When playing solo piano it's a unique opportunity to combine improvisation and compositions in a special way. There is no-one else that needs to be taken care of in the music, and I can therefore play my songs very open-minded, and form them intuitively through my improvisational and spontaneous way of playing."
